Last year, a friend of mine (Augusto Pedroza) and I were wanting to work on a project together. We agreed to work on a single purpose Android app that would solve a simple problem. After thinking about several problems for a week or two we decided to tackle the annoying problem of locking and unlocking your screen. Currently, if you are viewing something confidential or personal on your device and your teacher, boss, friend or even a stranger walks by, the best thing you can do to protect your screen is lock it. But, try doing that quickly before anyone can see what's on your screen; it's not easy. And what's more, to view your screen again, you have to unlock the phone, which can be a bit annoying and can throw off your groove. So we created Morse, which solves all these issues by letting you hide and unhide your screen quickly at the tap of a button.
Our app is simple. After downloading and launching the app you get this first screen, which tells you how it works. You press the Morse button to start using the app. There is an icon that stays on top of all your content and on top of any app.

You have three possible actions - you can tap the Morse icon to hide and unhide your screen, hold the icon down to get the Morse menu, or flick it away to close it. That's it; pretty simple.

I worked on the UX and UI design and the front end development, while Augusto did all the hard stuff! When designing the brand, the idea of tapping on your screen and hiding/unhiding your content made me think of morse code. And since morse has a sense of secrecy, I thought it was a perfect name for it. As I thought about how to design the brand, I wanted to continue with the theme of hiding something in plain site. So I came up with a message I wanted to hide "hide the screen, fast" and wrote it out in morse code. Then I arranged the morse code letters from left to right to create the logo. Yeah, pretty nerdy, but it was fun.

Here is a video I created using PowerPoint, because I was too cheap to pay for Adobe Premiere Pro. :)
